Today we are going to the ancient city of Side, located 30 kilometers west of our place of residence, and the first thing we have to see here is the largest in Turkey and perfectly preserved Roman theater for more than 20 thousand spectators.
In addition to all kinds of performances, gladiator fights were once held here, and now archaeological excavations continue. The upper rows of the theater offer a view of the agora – the main shopping area of this ancient city, and on the horizon, you can see the Taurus Mountains. The entrance to the theater is paid, 45 lire from the nose.
Further on the photo is the ancient arched gate of Emperor Vespasian, through which the central street of Side, Column Avenue, and the Monumental Fountain – Nymphaeum pass. Well, we go deep into the ancient city, the name of which is translated from the ancient Greek dialect as “Pomegranate”.
